Tidy Towns

 

Mayo Co. Council has informed the Tidy Towns Committee that Ballycastle has been awarded Litter Free Status for 2004.   Litter Free Status Sign is on Display in John Burkes Shop.   Well done to all concerned.

 

Death

 

The death has occurred of Johnny Doherty, Killala ( late of Carrowcur ).

Sympathy is extended to his wife Molly, his relatives and friends.

At the A.G.M. of Ballycastle G.A.A. Club the following officers were elected for the coming year:

Chairperson, Seamus O'Connor, asked for greater voluntary effort for the coming year and for an effort to be made to increase membership to 100 members.   He thanked all players in the different age groups and especially the Junior players who travelled home for games during the year.   He also thanked Junior Manager Jim Breslin, Selectors –Tony D'Arcy, Paddy Gilvarry and Michéal McDonnell, U-18 Managers Aidan Tighe and Leo Golden and U-16 Manager Leo Golden.

 

The Junior team reached the quarter final of the Co. Championship, the U-18 team reached the County 11-a-side Final and the U-16 team reached the North Mayo Final.

 

Development work still continues at Tom Langan Park.    Work has been done on drainage, some fencing at entrances and stand has been erected but the remainder of the pitch needs fencing off.   The club purchased a small tractor during the year and a new water pump.  

 

He also thanked various sponsors – ECC Sawmill, Cornamona, BPF recycling from Co. Down for advertising signs at the pitch,   Chris Murphy & Sons for Set of Jerseys, those who gave tractors to mow the pitch, local publicans who supplied refreshments after games and all who helped in any way.  

 

Dinner Dance

The Annual G.A.A./Parish Dinner Dance will be held on 28 th January in Hiney's, Crossmolina.   Tickets cost €25 and are available from Club members.

Card Game

Annual Card Game, in aid of Ballycastle G.A.A. Club, will be held in Killala Community Centre on 23 rd February.   More details later.

 

 

Art Group

 

Art Group resume painting sessions on Monday night (17 th   January) from 8.00 – 10.00p.m.   in the Resource Centre.

 

 

Set Dancing

 

Set Dancing has resumed in McNamees on Wednesday nights at 9.30p.m.   All welcome.
