A meeting regarding the Giro de Baile 2016 will take place on Tuesday 17th May at 8:30p.m. in Ballycastle Community Hall. You don't have to be a member to attend as all help and advice is appreciated from the community.

Giro de Baile the NorthMayo/Erris Sportive

Now in it's third year, Giro de Baile is going from strength to strength, and is fast becoming one of the country's premier cycling sportives. Modelled on the famous Ring of Kerry cycle and sanctioned by Cycling Ireland, it encompasses 146km of the most stunning Mayo North scenery, most of it along the Wild Atlantic Way.   This year's event takes place on the August Bank Holiday weekend, with the main cycle taking place on Sunday 31st July at 10.00am from Ballycastle town centre.

The event is community run and this year, five charities will benefit –

Naomh Padraig Juvenile GAA, Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, Irish Cancer Society and Family Carers Ireland .

Routes

There will be two routes available to participants – for the more experienced, the 146km route follows a wonderfully scenic course from Ballycastle Village right along the North Mayo coast through Lacken, Killala, Crossmolina, cycling right into the heart of Erris through Bangor, Barnatra, Pullathomas, Cornboy and Belderrig before returning to Ballycastle. This route along the sheer coast of the Atlantic is truly spectacular, passing scenic highlights like the famous Downpatrick Head, now a Wild Atlantic Way Signature Discovery Point, Lacken Strand, Porturlin and the Stags of Broadhaven.

For the intermediate or leisure cyclist, the 60km route takes in the parishes of Ballycastle, Lacken, Killala, Cooneal, Crossmolina, Moygownagh and Kilfian with many of the highlights above included on the route.

Inclusive

The Giro de Baile prides itself on being a community run, non-competitive day out. Novice cyclists do not need to feel intimidated as the event is primarily a fun and relaxed day out on your bike with like-minded people. While the event will be timed, you are only riding against yourself, the clock and the course.

New addition for 2016 – the Vintage and Family Cycle

?This year, on Saturday evening 30 th July at 5.30pm, cyclists and families are invited to bring their vintage bikes (pre-90s steel is the standard, but anything goes!), gear and memorabilia, and take part in a short spin from Ballycastle Community Hall to Downpatrick Head. There will be tea, coffee and an opportunity to take in the breathtaking views before returning to Ballycastle. The event is sponsored by Tea by the Sea .

Free Networking morning

Mayo North and Ballina Tourist Office are teaming up to host an informal, FREE networking morning on Tuesday May 24th from 10am–1pm in the Ballina Manor Hotel.

The objective of the morning is for those working in tourism within the Ballina Municipal District (hotels, activity providers, B&Bs, pubs, restaurants, events, visitor centres etc.) to either take a stand for own business and local attractions, or come in, browse and learn what's on offer elsewhere in the region.

Everyone or every group who can offer an experience to a tourist is welcome – whether that's a trad session, a fine dining experience, a water activity, walking trails, bike hire, fishing, a luxury spa … you get the picture.

Even if businesses do not wish to exhibit, they can come in for a chat and bring flyers, business cards or information for sharing – it will be very informal. .

If you need any more information contact Mayo North, Mags at Ballina Chamber of Commerce or Máirtín Flannery.
