G.A.A. Tribute

Aidan Tighe, who died on 7th June, was a former great of Ballycastle GAA. Aidan never let his club down, he was always there to serve Ballycastle GAA in any way he could. Aidan played for Ballycastle for as long as he could, usually as centre forward and was known as an accurate, strong player, with great ball winning ability. After retiring from playing, Aidan threw himself into administration and served as an officer of the club until last year. He was treasurer for over 20 years and his precision and thoroughness was incredible. Aidan was the County Board officer for years and was always a wonderful ambassador for our club. Aidan also trained underage teams for many years, and many of the present Ballycastle team went through his hands. Aidan's love for the Gaeilge and its customs were also to the fore and he taught Set Dancing for many years and represented Ballycastle at Scór where many awards were won. He was instrumental in resurrecting the ‘Ballycastle Set' and this is now preserved and can be practiced for generations to come. Aidan's lasting legacy to Ballycastle GAA is that through lean times he guided the club on a steady course, he oversaw the change over to younger members of the executive, he was always there for advice and guidance. It could be said that, but for Aidan Tighe there would not be a Ballycastle GAA club today. The friendship and craic we shared with you over the years will not be forgotten. May you rest in peace. Ní bheith a leithead ann arís.
