Céide Coast Pride of Place 2018

Community Groups, sports clubs, voluntary organisations, tourism businesses and anyone associated with tourism and/or Community are invited to take part in a showcase event being held in Belderrig Community Centre on Thursday 23rd August at 10.00 a.m.  This is part of the judging for the Pride of Place competition, which the Céide Coast has been entered into.  We are hoping for a huge turnout to prove to the judges that the area from Killala through Ballycastle and on to Belderrig is worthy of the title for 2018.  Information is available from your local Representatives:

Pan for Gold at Céide Fields

As part of National Heritage Week, Céide Fields are having a Free Open Day of activities and fun for all the family on Sunday August 26th. Try your hand at panning for gold with geologist Andy Lewis, take part in competitions and children's Fun Dig, and see an exhibition of turf cutting equipment from 11 am to 5pm.

 

Carlo Scarpa Film

This year Céide Fields were awarded the International Carlo Scarpa Prize from the Benetton Foundation in Italy , who produced a 48 minute long documentary film about Céide Fields. On Sunday August 26th this will be shown in the Céide Fields Visitor Centre at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm as part of our Free Open Day.

 

Talk by Alf Monaghan

On Friday August 24th at 7.30pm Céide Fields are hosting a lecture by Alf Monaghan, being organised by the North Mayo West Sligo Heritage Group.  An expert on the Middle east he will speak on "A Sacred Island Before Christianity" about the spread of Pre-Christian Eastern religious beliefs to Ireland . Admission free.

Mass will be celebrated in Belderrig Cemetery on Sunday 19th August at 1.00p.m. and in Doonfeeney Cemetery on Friday 7th September at 7.00p.m

 

Death

Sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Lucy Flanagan (nee Purcell) who died recently in Manchester (Sister of the late Kathleen Healy, Glenurla). May she rest in peace.
