Launch
of Ballycastle cycling club and the Giro de Baile
What
a Great night on Saturday 7th June with the Launch of the
Ballycastle Club and Giro de Baile (North Mayo sportive on
August 3rd.) . A massive thank you to Martin and Avril Murphy.
Thank you to Martin and Ciara and the staff of Katie Mac's.
We had some surprise visitors on the night with Lance Armstrong,
Oprah, Sean Kelly (not the one from Doonfeeney) wasn't
impressed to find out how Donal can climb them hills with
ease. A packed pub heard Vladimir Putin officially Launch
the Club/Giro and then Hitler went through the Giro Route
but wasn't best pleased to find out the route bypasses Bessie's
Bar in Kilcummin. Check out the Launch video on youtube "Giro
de Baile".
Well done to Emer Donnelly who managed to win the overall
prize on the Turbo Trainer Competition.
Dermot Kelly 1st Member
Oisin Mcovack 1st Non Member
Sean O'Grady 2nd .
Caroline Murray 1st Non Member
All will receive Club Polo shirts.
Sean O'Grady made the comment of the night when he observed
"he's seen the cycling club twice, first time on a trailer
at the St. Patricks Day parade and the other on a stationary
bike in a packed pub”. He was wondering do we actually cycle.
The Giro Route will take in a lot of Towns and Villages of
North Mayo starting in Ballycastle, past Downpatrick Head,
Lacken, Killala
, Kilfian, Moygownagh, Crossmolina
, Bellacorick, Bangor Erris, Carrowmore Lake , Barnatra,
Glengad , Pullathomas, Glenamoy, Belderrig, Céide Fields
and back to Ballycastle. So expect some spectacular views
of North Mayo, those who know the roads of North Mayo will
know it's a flat enough route with just a few short climbs.
If anyone would like to join the Club or wants more information
on the Giro de Baile in August, find us on Facebook or ring
Noel Kelly on 0863828713 or Máirtín Flannery
on 0863225128.
