Thanks to Lewis Keating for the following poem about the weather bomb at Downpatrick Head.

When the sea baptised St Patrick.

On the 13`th day of December, 2014 was the year,

A weather bomb in the Atlantic , made shipping quake with fear.

On the wild Atlantic way, Ballycastle braced it`s chin,

As mighty, awesome, tidal waves, came pounding, pounding in.

One tremendous wave came roaring in, it had built a deadly pace,

Dún Briste disappeared in crashing foam, as it smashed on the great cliff face.

The water sailed high over the head, a sight to make you faint,

Then coming down in torrents, it landed on the saint.

The water flooded St. Patricks house, and tumbled out the door,

Ran down the head, to the big blow hole, and joined the sea once more.

St. Patrick set his stony face, of moving he had no notion,

But shock it was, on that high cliff, to be baptised by the ocean.

The waves that day, ripped and tore away, performing great erosion,

That giant wave, tried to smash the cliff, like a massive wet explosion.

With camera poised, Paul Doran stood, he clicked as that wave broke high,

He caught that wall of water as it soared, high in the sky.

That shot will be an icon, for many and many a day,

We will show it to the visitors, on the wild Atlantic way.

St. Patrick still keeps sentinel, we wonder what he said,

That evening on Downpatrick, when the sea fell on his head.
