Ballinglen Gallery -Mayo Arts Collaborative 2016

You are invited to attend the Opening of an Exhibition by Michelle Browne based on 1916 Suffragette Kathleen Lynn "Insider on the Outside" who was born in Mullaghfarry, Killala.   Given Lynn 's lifelong political activism, this Exhibition focuses attention on contemporary women who followed Lynn 's footsteps and moved from the family home to the political arena.   Five venues across the County will host this Exhibition check out  www.kathleenlynn.net .  Opening at The Ballinglen Arts Foundation at 5.00 p.m. Saturday 26th March 2016.   Do come along and enjoy this wonderful Exhibition celebrating the importance of this Mayo woman and other women involved in the 1916 struggle for liberation.

Saturday 2nd April 2.00 p.m. - "Kathleen Lynn & Mayo's Forgotten 'Strong' Women"

A talk by Dr Maureen Langan-Egan author of "Women in Mayo" 1851-1881.

Ballinglen will host a day of story-telling in celebration of 1916 and the huge contribution of women during that time.   Do come along and enjoy an open discussion, and exchange stories in relation to 1916.

Refreshments served, free of charge.

 

Deaths

The deaths occurred last week of Josie & Johnny Noone, Ballinglen, Ballycastle. Josie died on Monday 14th and her husband Johnny died on Wednesday 16th . Sympathy is extended to their daughters Kathleen McMorrow (Ballinglen), Mary, Martina, Fiona and Sarah, sons John James, Tom, Michael and Brendan, Josie's brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, extended family, relatives and friends.

May they rest in peace.

 

Sympathy is also extended to the family, relatives and friends of Tony Meyler, Wexford who died recently (Brother of Jim Meyler, Carrowcubic).

May he rest in peace.

 

St. Patrick's Day Parade

Well done to all who took part in the St. Patrick's Day Parade, to Maura and the organisers and also to Seán O'Grady MC and the Jackson family for great music.

Golf Society

Next outing is to Westport Golf Club on 26th March. 1st tee is booked for 11am so please be there for 10.30am. Contact David Alexander on 0877965090 for more information. Visitors and new members welcome.

Our away outing this year is the weekend of the 16/17 June to Salthill, staying at the Clayburn Hotel, playing Tuam Golf Course on the way down on Friday and playing Barna Golf Course on the Saturday. Facebook Training

Facebook training for local community groups will be held in The Foxford Sports & Leisure Centre on Tuesday April 5th 2016 from 7pm – 10pm.  People attending this training will need to have basic computer skills and the goal is to be able to set up a Facebook page for community groups.  This training is free and is funded under the Social Inclusion & Community Activation Programme.  As numbers are limited early booking is important.   I will only take one person from each group at the moment but may be able to take more nearer the time. The training will be provided by 2market Training.

Cycling Club

Club Spins for Members at 8am on Sundays from the Shambles.
If you know anyone interested in getting into cycling for beginners, Couch to the Giro continues at 9am on Saturdays from the Shambles, Ballycastle. All you need is a Bike (any), a Helmet and Motivation.

 

Athletic Club

Ballycastle Athletic Club training on Saturday mornings at 10am at the football pitch –junior and senior infants meet at the Community Hall.

Opening times for the Gymnasium in Ballycastle Community Hall are:

Monday – Friday 9.00a.m. – 1.00p.m. and 5.00p.m. – 9.00p.m.

Saturday 10.00a.m. – 1.30p.m.

Prices: €5 per visit, €20 per month, €50 for 3 months or €120 per year.

Craft Shop is located in the Resource Centre, Upper Main Street stocking goods by local craftworkers e.g. knitwear, crochet, handmade cards, wooden bowls, cushions, cot quilts, etc.

Ballycastle souvenir items e.g. candles, fridge magnets, keyrings, bookmarks, biros, teabag holders, St. Brigid's Crosses, Mayo Crystal and a range of other items.
