‘The Gathering' Festival

Ballycastle/Belderrig Festival takes place from Thursday 1st to Saturday 10th August with lots of activities planned for the week. Some of the events are:

Street Party August 5th at 4:30pm

As part of the Street Festival we want to encourage local people to set up a stall with arts, crafts, food, cakes, anything of interest or information about your group or organisation. All local stalls will be free on the day. A small fee will apply to stalls from outside Ballycastle/Belderrig. We hope to keep everyone entertained on the day with traditional Irish cooking, busking on the street, go cart racing and don't forget the sexy sheep racing. We have decided to start it at 4:30pm as we don't want to clash with the Bonniconlon Show. Patsy O'Neill will keep us all entertained as the Master of Ceremonies. Contact Kathryn Hefferon, Máirtín Flannery, Barbara Kelly, Noel Kelly, John Burke or any other member of the festival committee.

Turf Cutting competition 6th August.

Don't Get Bogged Down! Visit Ballycastle on the Tuesday 6th August for the Turf Cutting Competition. The ancient art of Turf Cutting will take centre stage on Tuesday 6th August in Glenlossra Bog.

According to one of the event organisers, Barbara Kelly, traditional turf-cutting methods have not changed since ancient times.

Come and enjoy a Great day in the Bog with music, enjoy a cup of tea and a sandwich while you watch the turf being cut the way it was hundreds of years ago.

Contact Noel Kelly, Máirtín Flannery, or Barbara Kelly for more details.

Nostalgia and Dancing 7th August
One of the real treats for the festival is the nostalgia and dancing on Wednesday 7th in the Hall. It will be opened with an ecumenical service by Fr Harrison and Rev Canon Neil O'Raw, followed by videos and films of past festivals in the parish along with clips from Stella Maris and Naomh Bríd schools. It promises to be a real tear jerker as we take you back in time. When all this is over your night will only begin as we have Music lined up so you can dance the night away. Tea and refreshments will be served. It's going to be a great night of reminising and nostalgia.

Contact John Burke or Máirtín Flaherty for more details.

All events and time tables can be viewed on our facebook page - Ballycastle/Belderrig Gathering.
