Soap Car Racing

Fancy winning a Pair of Tickets to the Ireland v Sweden game at the Aviva Stadium on September 6th?
All you have to do is build a go-cart (soap car). A specially designed course will be built and it will be run on a time trail basis. €10 per car. Contact Máirtín Flannery, Liam O'Toole, John Burke or Sean O'Grady. Prize for the best turned out car. Races start at 4.30p.m. on Bank Holiday Monday August 5th.

All cars must have proper steering and braking systems in place and all drivers must wear a helmet, you cannot compete without them. Soccer tickets are first prize for the adult section of the race only.

Wife Carrying Contest
A wife-carrying contest is actually a lot like it sounds. Men, carrying wives, race through an obstacle course that includes sand, water and fences. The prize for winning the race is a two night stay in the Sneem Hotel in Kerry and entry to the All Ireland qualifiers with a chance to win a trip to Finland for the World Championship wife carrying competition. It's really all very civilized and will take place in Tom Langan Park on the 10th August. If the wives fancy carrying their husbands, I can't see any problem with this.

Children's Events

Children's Festival fun - where kids will take part in Sand Castle Competition, Street Art, Bike Race, Story Telling, Treasure Hunt and a massive Sports day and much more. Children's activities will run everyday from 1pm until 3pm so parents can have a well earned rest and plan for the night ahead.

Tug of War

Rumour around the town is that the tug of war is going to be fierce. Battle lines have been drawn as teams are picked from the station areas. Will it be the Glen Men, the Belderrig Boys, Kilbride Lady Killers or maybe some surprise team?  It's all out war on the 10th August in Tom Langan Park . Contact Sean O'Grady for more details.

Luke Ming Flanagan

It is with great delight we can announce Luke "MING" Flanagan has agreed to be our guest as part of the Turf Cutting competition in Glenossra bog on 7th August.
Deputy Luke ‘Ming' Flanagan TD, PRO for the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association (TCCA), talking about the recent stand offs in Roscommon and Galway bogs said that that the cutters are “vindicating our rights” and that if government wants to bring more turf cutters to court, “we will fight it through the courts and fight it politically and fight it on the bogs”.
The deputy said there was a “great irony” in that fact that “those bankers [from the recently released Anglo tapes] are tucked up in their five star beds at the moment and turf cutters here are facing the possibility of three years in jail”

Anyone interested in entering the Turf Cutting competition contact Noel Kelly, Máirtin Flannery, Kevin Healy (Seaview), Shay Lynch or Paddy McDonnell.

We will be holding some of the events in the Community Hall during the festival.
The Hall committee have agreed to be flexible on the rate.

All events and time tables can be viewed on our facebook page - Ballycastle/Belderrig Gathering.
