G.A.A. Dinner Dance

A Great night was had by all who attended the annual Dinner Dance on the 25th March. Special guest Ger Brady talked about playing against Ballycastle - who used to play hard but always fair. He spoke of the many people he met through football from Ballycastle and how friendly they were after matches (not so while the match was on).

Hall of Fame winner Joe Mc Donnell had the attendance in the palm of his hand as he talked about the good old days, when playing for Ballycastle was more than just togging out, and how in times of hardship it brought the whole parish together to forget their troubles for one hour ever weekend. He talked about the great Tom Langan and how he remembers Tom playing and how all the footballers at the time looked up to the giant of the game and he told of the great gentleman Tom was. He spoke of great days and the rivalry between Ballycastle and Ardnaree at the time and he spoke of the great people he played with throughout those years like Willie Barrett. He also spoke of his love of Ballycastle and always  loves to hear the news from home even though he has been in England for many years. After his speech there was a deserved standing ovation for a worthy winner of the Hall of Fame.

Eilis Ormsby was the winner of Club Person of the Year award. Eilis being the first woman from the parish to win this award, made it extra special and no one deserved it more. She has done trojan work since taking over from Aidan Tighe (R.I.P.) who himself left a great legacy for her to continue. She was presented with the Aidan Tighe trophy from Martin Hefferon (Chairman) with a great applause from the 160 in attendance.

Shane Breslin was winner of the Player of the Year award. His great work rate in every match he played in last season left no one in any doubt he deserved it. He led the team from midfield and was never wanting in any match he played in.

Martin Hefferon thanked all who attended the Dinner Dance, with special thanks to the winners and their families. He also talked about the great plans Ballycastle had for the coming year regarding the club house and facilities in Tom Langan Park .
