Fleadh
Weekend
On
Friday 9th at 8.30p.m. Fleadh Maigh Eo will be officially
opened by Seamus McCormack, Chairman of Connaught Council.
This will be followed by a Concert (9.00p.m.) which
will open with some songs in Irish by Scoil Naomh Bríd
Primary School pupils and will feature traditional music,
song and dance by participants from all over Mayo.
Presentation will be made to Monsignor Séan Ó'Cíllín
P.P.
Competitions
start on Saturday morning for U-15's at 10.00a.m. in all venues
and will continue all day until around 7.00p.m. Set
Dancing competitions will take place in the Parish Hall.
There will be a Céili in the Hall on Saturday night
10.00p.m. – 1.00a.m.
The
11.30a.m. Mass on Sunday will be mostly in Irish and competitions
for 15–18yrs and Seniors will begin in all venues afterwards,
except the Hall, where a Sean Nós dancing workshop
will take place from 12.00noon – 3.00p.m. This is open to
everyone and beginners welcome. Competitions for groups of
musicians begin in the Hall at 5.00p.m. Marching Bands (Céilí
Bands) competition takes place on Sunday after 4.00p.m.
Winners
of all competitions go forward to the Connaught Fleadh which
will take place in Westport at a later date.
Craobh
Chois Muaidhe are having a Ceol Sráide competition
– a competition for street music
(traditional)
where there are prizes for U-12, U-15, U-18 and seniors.
This takes place on both Saturday and Sunday. Cash prizes
will be presented to the winners on Sunday evening at the
end of the Fleadh.
Programme
of events will be on sale in the Fleadh Office in St. Patrick's
College on Main Street.

Coast Vintage Society meeting on Tuesday 13th May at 9.00p.m.
Vintage
Day
West
Coast Vintage Society are holding their first Field Day in
Ballycastle on Sunday 25th May from 12.00noon – 6.00p.m.
An extensive variety of classic and vintage cars, tractors,
motorbikes, machinery and retro cars will be displayed.
Events
on the day will include a thrashing demonstration, working
tractors exhibition, flower festival, dog show, forging by
a blacksmith and much more.
The
flower festival will be held in St. John's Church on Saturday
24th from 3.00p.m. – 9.30p.m. and on Sunday 25th from 11.00a.m.
– 5.00p.m. The theme of this year's festival will be “Rock
of Ages” and there will be 13 exhibits.
The
Dog Show will have a variety of classes, including ‘Dog in
Fancy Dress' competition.
Live
Bands will play throughout the day. There will also
be a food pavilion, a family fun zone and outdoor entertainment
to keep the younger visitors happy.
