Michael
Ring TD, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport officially
opened the Spirit of Place installation ‘The Crossing' at
Downpatrick Head on Friday last. This is one of two signature
points in Mayo on the Wild Atlantic Way 1,500 mile route that
follows the coastline from Donegal to Cork . The site was
blessed by Fr. Michael Harrisson P.P. Ballycastle, Rev. Niall
O'Raw and Canon Seán Killeen. Bodrán players
– local and students from Washington College – lined the berm
before the official opening. The beat of the bodrán
depicting the pagan origin of the site.
This
was followed by a barbeque and a night of music and dance
in the Shambles, courtesy of Ballycastle/Belderrig Development
Company and Mayo County Council.
It
was great to see such a large crowd attend and a very enjoyable
night was had by all.
Well
done to all who were involved in this installation project.
